Sanae Ishida was born in Nagasaki in 1979. In 2002, she studied the composition with Masayuki NAGATOMI and Ichirô NODAIRA at the Tokyo University of the Arts where she got the degree of composition.
She graduated in composition at the Conservatoire National Supérieur Musique et
Danse de Paris in 2007 where she attends the composition class of Alain Gaussin, Marco Stroppa and Gerard Pesson and also studied the electro-acoustic composition with Luis Naon, Tom Mays and Yann Geslin.
She composes not only for conventional instruments of classical music orchestra but also for daily objets and various voices. She is developing her research about interaction between body gesture and sound and connecting this one with Asian culture – asians traditional/contemporary arts like buto, theatre Nô, Japanese martial art and also asian Philosophies like Ichigo ichie, never again of school of buddhism Zen, Wu wei, inaction of Taoism – to create a singular and poetic world.
Her works were played in festivals like Présences of Radio France and at ISCM World music days.
In 2019, she participated to Woman Opera Makers Workshop
mentored by Katie Mitchell at the International Festival of Lyric Art in Aix-en-
Provence, organized by ENOA.
She was awarded the prizes of composition : Hervé Dugardin (SACEM), André Jolivet, a first prize at the international competition Francisco Escudero, third prize at Agora composition competition. She was a composer in residence with Linea ensemble in 2008 and received a scholarship for the season 2006/07 by the Agency of the cultural affairs of Japan.
She has received several commissions by French Ministry of Culture, Radio France, Linéa ensemble, Atlas ensemble, Fondation Salabert etc.
Her works were performed by Accroche Note, soloists of Ensemble Intercontemporain, Orchestre philharmonique de Radio France, Atlas, Le Balcon, Linéa , Orchestre National de National Orchestra and soloists, HANATSUMiroir, L’Itinéraire such as Pierre Strauch, Mihi Kim, Pierre-Yves Artaud, Marie-Andrée Joerger, Maricio Carrasco, Elise Chauvin, Mari Sano, Naomi Shirai, Julie Brunet-Jailly, Naomi Sato and Masato Matsuura (martial artist).
